Owner notes

8 Things to Know Before Buying GAC Aion Aion Y Plus in Hong Kong

Based on real owner experiences and reviews

  1. 01

In Eco or I-pedal mode, expect around 43km per 10% battery on a daily commute. One owner driving 70km round trip to work five days a week found the real-world range comfortable and consistent.

  2. 02

The standard Chaoyang tyres are durable but produce noticeable road noise and offer weaker grip. Switching to quieter comfort tyres is a popular upgrade that significantly improves the driving experience.

  3. 03

The cabin is one of the most spacious in its price range, with rear legroom that surprises most passengers. The trade-off is boot space. Loading a baby stroller and a shopping trolley at the same time can make closing the tailgate a tight fit.

  4. 04

The suspension is surprisingly comfortable for a car at this price point. Multiple passengers and drivers have noted how settled the ride feels, especially on highways at 110km/h.

  5. 05

The HK version is missing features available in other markets. The Thailand model includes lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control with low speed follow, a rear fold-down centre armrest, and rear headrests. The HK version has none of these. Wireless phone charging is also absent.

  6. 06

The infotainment screen has noticeable lag when navigating menus and switching between functions.

  7. 07

The cabin has virtually no new-car chemical smell, which is notable compared to some other Chinese EVs that have drawn complaints about interior off-gassing.

  8. 08

The Aion Y Plus is the dominant ride-hailing vehicle across southern China, which gives it a utilitarian image. Some private buyers in HK hesitate because of this association. The car itself is well-built and reliable, but it does not carry the same prestige as competitors at a similar price.
