Owner notes

8 Things to Know Before Buying Lotus Emeya in Hong Kong

Based on real owner experiences and reviews

  1. 01

The Emeya's 800V architecture delivers peak DC charging speeds around 300kW. In practice, charging from 30% to 92% takes about 15 minutes at a compatible fast charger, making it one of the quickest-charging EVs available in HK.

  2. 02

The S+ variant includes rear-axle steering as standard, which noticeably helps with U-turns and parking. The standard Emeya S does not have this feature, so buyers who plan to navigate tight HK streets regularly should factor in the upgrade.

  3. 03

At roughly 2,500kg, the Emeya is far heavier than any Lotus that came before it. The car drives more like a luxury GT cruiser than a nimble sports sedan. Buyers expecting the sharp, lightweight feel associated with the Lotus name may find the character quite different.

  4. 04

Lotus has very little brand presence in HK's EV market, and the second-hand market for the Emeya is essentially nonexistent. Buyers should expect steep depreciation, especially in the first few years.

  5. 05

At the Emeya's HK price point of around HK$2 million, the Porsche Taycan is the most commonly considered alternative. The Taycan offers a more established dealer network, better-known resale value, and wider charging infrastructure support in HK.

  6. 06

Some advanced driver assistance features available on the mainland and global spec Emeya are not approved for the HK market. The Transport Department's regulations mean the HK version may lack certain ADAS functions that overseas reviewers highlight.

  7. 07

The Emeya shares its SEA platform with the Zeekr 001, which costs significantly less. The Lotus premium covers aerodynamic tuning, suspension calibration, and brand heritage, but buyers should test-drive both to decide whether the price gap is justified.

  8. 08

At 5,139mm long and 2,005mm wide, the Emeya is one of the largest sedans on HK roads. Older multi-storey car parks with narrow bays will be a daily challenge, and some underground garages may be impractical altogether.
