9 Things to Know Before Buying MINI Aceman in Hong Kong

1. 01

   The interior uses knitted fabric panels on the doors and dashboard. These collect dust quickly and absorb moisture when the door is opened in rain. In Hong Kong's humidity, expect to clean them more often than leather or synthetic surfaces.

   AC charging is capped at 11kW single-phase. At a shopping mall or public AC charger, one hour adds roughly half the range you would get from an EV that supports 22kW. If you rely on opportunity charging during meals or errands, this makes a real difference.

   DC fast charging peaks at around 95kW. By 2025 EV standards this is on the lower end, and a 10-80% session takes noticeably longer than similarly priced competitors like the Smart #1 or Zeekr X.

   Under hard acceleration, noticeable torque steer pulls the steering to one side. This is inherent to the front-wheel-drive, single-motor layout and most apparent on straight roads.

   Boot space is smaller than the Smart #1, its closest competitor. The Smart also offers a two-tier boot floor for extra storage flexibility, which the Aceman lacks.

   The electric Aceman and Cooper are manufactured in China at the BMW-Great Wall joint venture plant. Only petrol MINIs are still UK-made. The electric Countryman, by contrast, is built in Germany.

   The automatic parking brake assist triggers too conservatively in tight spaces. Some owners deactivate it entirely because it prevents the car from fitting into narrower HK parking bays.

   The rear floor is not flat. There is a raised centre section, which reduces comfort for a middle rear passenger and makes the cabin feel less spacious than the exterior dimensions suggest.

   Owners who have driven other EVs describe this generation of electric MINI as the closest to a petrol car in steering and chassis feel. The go-kart character MINI is known for has largely carried over.
