9 Things to Know Before Buying Volkswagen ID.4 in Hong Kong

   The infotainment system on the MEB platform has a history of freezing and rebooting, including the centre console going black while driving. The HK facelift version runs software v4.0, which owners say has improved the lag. Earlier pre-facelift versions were significantly worse.

   Ride quality and suspension are consistently praised, even by owners critical of other aspects. The chassis is rated among the best in the European EV segment, and the cabin is spacious. Some buyers chose the ID.4 over the Tesla Model Y specifically for the smoother ride.

   The ID.4 Pro does not include a 360-degree surround view camera, which is standard on many competing EVs at this price point. For a car priced around HK$360,000, buyers consider this a notable omission.

   Complex repairs can be slow. Some owners report dead vehicles being towed to the service centre, with the HK repair team waiting on technical guidance from VW Germany before they can proceed. Turnaround times for electrical faults are unpredictable.

   VW's connected car service (Car-Net) and official app are not available in Hong Kong. Features like remote climate control, charging status monitoring, and vehicle location tracking that come standard in other markets do not work here.

   Nearly all controls are through the touchscreen, and the remaining physical buttons use capacitive touch with minimal tactile feedback. Adjusting settings while driving can be frustrating compared to cars with traditional knobs and switches.
