9 Things to Know Before Buying Volvo EX30 in Hong Kong

   Rear seat space is the EX30's biggest compromise. Passengers over 178cm will find legroom tight, and the rear door openings are narrow, making entry and exit awkward. If rear passenger comfort matters, test it in person before committing.

   Interior trim quality is polarizing. The glossy black plastic around the center console attracts fingerprints and scratches easily. The recycled splatter-pattern dash panel divides opinion, with some finding it creative and others comparing it to old railway flooring.

   Some owners report the center screen going black at highway speed, requiring a reboot while driving. Electronics issues have also surfaced after roughly a year of ownership, including climate controls activating on their own.

   The ride is surprisingly comfortable for a car this small, with suspension soaking up most bumps well. Over sharp edges like drain covers, however, the rear can feel bouncy, and road noise is noticeable inside the cabin.

   The center armrest folds away completely, opening a pass-through between the driver and passenger seats. If one door is blocked in a tight parking space, the front occupant can slide across and exit from the other side.

   Hong Kong only receives the single-motor rear-drive Extended Range version. The more powerful twin-motor AWD variant available in Europe and the UK is not offered here.

   Post-一換一 pricing for the Ultra trim sits around HK$249,900 plus the $25,000 registration tax quota. During the one-for-one scheme, the same car listed at approximately HK$336,000.

   The EX30 shares its SEA2 platform with the Smart #1 and Zeekr X. Buyers cross-shopping in this price range should compare all three. The Smart #1 offers AWD and comes with more standard equipment at a similar or lower price point.

   There is no instrument cluster or head-up display. Speed, range, and all driving information appear only on the center touchscreen. Mirrors, the glovebox, and most settings also require the touchscreen. Owners who dislike taking their eyes off the road find this a significant drawback.
