9 Things to Know Before Buying XPENG X9 in Hong Kong
Based on real owner experiences and reviews
01
At 5.3 metres long, the X9 is longer than most Hong Kong parking spaces. The tailgate can hit low car park ceilings when opened, and older public estate multi-storey car parks may be too tight to navigate. Owners recommend hourly or floating parking over fixed monthly spots, especially if neighbouring spaces are also occupied by large vehicles.
02
The third row folds completely flat, creating enough cargo space to fit bicycles. This is a practical advantage over the Denza D9 and Zeekr 009. The layout also gives the X9 a family-car feel rather than a chauffeur-driven look.
03
Interior materials are a step below Japanese MPVs like the Alphard. The headliner is nylon rather than suede, the tailgate is mostly plastic, and the steering wheel feels narrow. The cheaper variant has noticeably lower-quality seat leather. Audio quality also trails the Zeekr 009.
04
The auto-parking system can offset left, centre, or right within a space. In Hong Kong, it parks flush to the left by default to maximise space on the right for the driver to exit. The walk-away auto-park feature available in mainland China is disabled in HK due to local regulations.
05
Real-world energy consumption in Hong Kong driving conditions runs approximately 17 to 20 kWh per 100km. For a vehicle this size and weight, that is competitive, but expect higher consumption in stop-and-go urban traffic or with full air conditioning.
06
With 320ps, the X9 can feel underpowered for a 2.4-tonne electric MPV. Some owners compare the acceleration to a 3.5-litre petrol Alphard, which is not what most buyers expect from an EV. Hill starts remain effortless thanks to instant torque, but outright performance is modest for the segment.
07
The X9 sits lower than the Denza D9, making it noticeably easier for elderly passengers to step in and out. For families with older members, this is a meaningful practical advantage over taller MPV rivals.
08
The rear-wheel steering system makes the X9 surprisingly nimble for its size. U-turns on narrow Hong Kong streets are easy, and the turning circle is far tighter than the 5.3-metre body suggests. Multiple owners consider this feature essential for daily HK driving.
09
The folding entertainment screen in the second row has no anti-pinch protection on its retracting bracket. XPENG has confirmed this design limitation and recommends enabling the child lock to prevent accidental operation by young children.
