9 Things to Know Before Buying MG MG4 in Hong Kong

Based on real owner experiences and reviews

  1. 01

The rear-wheel-drive layout and low centre of gravity make the MG4 one of the most engaging cars to drive in its price range. The smaller battery version is lighter, which makes the handling even sharper through corners.

  2. 02

The 51kWh small battery offers around 300km of real-world range, which is more than enough for daily driving in Hong Kong. The larger 64kWh battery adds weight and reduces the handling advantage without a meaningful benefit for most local commutes.

  3. 03

Street prices have dropped well below the original list price, with deals seen around HK$120,000 to $130,000. Advertised promotional prices sometimes differ from what the dealer actually offers, so confirm by phone before visiting.

  4. 04

The boot is compact for a hatchback, fitting roughly one large suitcase. There is a two-tier storage system under the boot floor that helps organise smaller items, but families or frequent travellers may find the space limiting.

  5. 05

The front seats are a recurring complaint. Multiple drivers find them uncomfortable on longer journeys, with the seat base feeling like it pushes upward. The shape is hard to adjust into a natural position. A test drive of at least 30 minutes is recommended before committing.

  6. 06

Wind noise becomes noticeable at highway speeds and overall cabin insulation is average for the price. The car is quieter around town but less refined on faster roads like the Tuen Mun Highway or Tolo Highway.

  7. 07

There are no rear air conditioning vents. Back-seat passengers depend entirely on airflow from the front, which can be uncomfortable during Hong Kong's hot and humid summers.

  8. 08

The steering wheel function buttons sit very close to the rim. Some drivers accidentally trigger them while turning, which can be distracting. It takes time to adjust your grip to avoid this.

  9. 09

The side skirts extend quite far out from the body. Getting in and out can be awkward, especially for shorter passengers, as you need to step over them. This is a common trade-off on EV platforms with underfloor batteries, but it is more pronounced on the MG4.
