9 Things to Know Before Buying Smart #1 in HK
Based on real owner experiences and reviews
01
The government one-for-one EV replacement scheme — which offers an FRT tax credit of up to HK$172,500 plus a HK$58,500 concession — ends on March 31, 2026. Buyers who miss the deadline will pay significantly more for the same car.
02
There are four variants in Hong Kong, all currently listed on the official smart HK site: Pro (HK$199,000 / 310km WLTP), Pro+ (HK$239,000 / 420km WLTP), Premium (HK$269,000 / 440km WLTP), and BRABUS (HK$299,000 / 400km WLTP). Prices are subject to first registration tax adjustments.
03
All four variants share the same DC fast charging spec: up to 150 kW, with 10-80% in under 30 minutes. AC charging maxes at 7.4 kW on all trims.
04
The 12.8-inch touchscreen is standard equipment across all smart #1 trims — not an upgrade. smart Pilot driver assistance (including blind spot assistant and Adaptive Cruise Control) is also standard.
05
HK reviewers are split on whether to buy the Premium or BRABUS. The case for Premium: it is lighter, has longer range (440km vs 400km), and costs HK$30,000 less. The case for BRABUS: AWD provides much better wet-weather confidence on Hong Kong roads, and the 3.9s 0-100 performance is genuinely exciting. Both camps agree the BRABUS is outstanding value if performance matters.
06
Every smart #1 in Hong Kong comes with an integrated service package included in the purchase price: regular over-the-air software updates, up to 3 years of maintenance service, and up to 8 years of roadside assistance — all at no extra cost.
07
The smart #1 was named TopGear HK EV of the Year for 2023, and the car holds both a Red Dot Design Award and an iF Design Award. Among HK reviewers with 275,000+ views, the near-universal reaction was that it drives far more engagingly than expected for a city-sized EV.
08
HK detailers who handled first-batch smart #1 deliveries specifically advise against choosing the factory matte grey paint option. Matte finishes require specialist care and cannot be machine-polished; everyday scratches are much harder to fix than on standard gloss paint. The two-tone painted roof/trim areas are also noted as prone to scratching.
09
The BRABUS is the only AWD variant and does 0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. All other trims (Pro, Pro+, Premium) are rear-wheel drive and take 6.7 seconds. The BRABUS also has shorter WLTP range (400km) than the Premium (440km) due to the twin-motor AWD setup.
