9 Things to Know Before Buying Tesla Model 3 in HK
Based on real owner experiences and reviews
01
The driving position can cause lower back discomfort on longer drives, especially for shorter drivers. Multiple owners report this. A test drive of at least one hour is recommended before buying.
02
Tesla only services its own cars through official service centres. Independent repair options are very limited in HK. HKTESLA in To Kwa Wan is one of the few alternatives for out-of-warranty work.
03
At the current price, a new Model 3 is cheaper than many used ones on the second-hand market. Resale values have dropped significantly with each Tesla price cut.
04
After 5 to 6 years or around 100,000km, expect suspension work. Bushings and ball joints wear out. Some owners get repairs done across the border for about half the HK price.
05
One owner calculated real Supercharger costs at about $0.38 per km during off-peak. Roughly $150 for 400km of real-world driving.
06
Full Self-Driving is not available in Hong Kong. Autopilot works on highways but the full FSD package sold in the US has not been approved by HK regulators.
07
The Model 3 uses a CCS2 connector. For cross-border driving to the mainland, you need a CCS2-to-GB/T DC adapter. The Honnmono Pro is the most recommended but costs around $4,600.
08
Tyre wear is higher than on petrol cars due to the instant torque. Owners report replacing tyres every 30,000 to 50,000km at $4,000 to $6,000 per set. Pirelli P Zero and Michelin PS4 are the most popular choices.
09
Supercharger pricing in HK varies by location and time of day. Charging before 8am is significantly cheaper. Some stations add a surcharge above 80% battery level.
